The Top Five Meals on Wheels Ideas That Will Never Be:

1. Martini Popsicle Truck: Gin, vodka, dirty, extra dry, whatever. I want little more than a full menu of boozy frozen treats on a stick, preferably either olive-, lemon-infused, to roll up my street right about 5 p.m. every day.

2. Nutella-Grand Marnier-Banana Crepes Truck: A heady creation, so overwrought with disparate flavors, they actually taste a little like bubble gum taken altogether. But the combination, while disgusting on paper, is one of the world’s most glorious street foods. Regular orders kept me alive in Paris. And would give me one big reason to live now.

3. Fat-tastic Truck: Dutch chocolate beignets, duck rillettes, Awful Awfuls, triple crème cheese. If it’s jacked up with saturated fat, it’d be peddled off this diet-destroying rig. Healthy? Hardly. Will it all be positively dripping with flavor? You bet your fat ass.

4. Vampire Mobile: A fix for Sooki Stackhouse addicts between Sundays. Think True Bloody Marys, garlicky crostini, red velvet cupcakes. Okay, so it’s a pretty thin concept. But get Alexander Skarsgård to serve it all shirtless, and you’ve got yourself a slam-dunk of a biz.

5. Mean, Lean, Green Machine: Any putz can get a prescription for legal marijuana and fire it up. But to clarify it in butter perfectly and roll it out into beautifully rich chocolate chip cookies takes a special kind of pastry chef. Or, more specifically, a special kind of baker.

Filipino born, Dutch raised, Laidback Luke is the king of hybrid house music, citing influences from Mozart to Snoop Dogg.  He first made a name for himself as a graffiti artist. Now he’s a world-known DJ and sought-after Producer whose collaborations include such notable names as  David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Lil’ Jon, and Robyn, among others. And then there are the countless compilations and the sold-out international shows.

For anyone looking to dance their ass off this coming hump day, get on down to Royale for a sexy and energetic set from one of the best DJs out there.  I recommend purchasing tickets ASAP because this show is hot and bound to sell out soon.  Still not sold?  Check out his Myspace (yes, I know) and I’ll just leave it with I told you so.

A Summer Sale Preview for Fashionably Late at Liberty Hotel, hosted by Gilt City. Photography courtesy of Randy Gross

Gilt Groupe is clearly better aligned with the Gods than I, as the weather for which we’ve all been praying over the past week decided to finally make an appearance on the day their summer sale begins.

There’s little worse than staring down an incredible deal on summer pieces when all you want to do is watch a marathon of Jane Austen movies while wrapped in three comforters and eating cheesecake. Perhaps I’m only speaking for myself on that one. So it goes.

We’re told the sale includes Doucette Duval, Trovata, Current Elliot, Dolce Vita, Carolina Herrera, Matt Bernson, Calvin Klein, AG, Geren Ford, LAMB, Toy watches.

And it opens in just an hour, so SIGN ON.

I have not, regrettably, spent altogether too much time in Provincetown since my move to Boston about three years ago (read: I HAVE NOT BEEN, WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?), so you may or may not find me at Marc Jacobs today drooling over the photographs in the compendium.

Whether I decide to have my copy autographed will pivot more on to what extent I can contain my aforementioned drooling. Historically speaking, not so good.

The real point of my blathering? COME TODAY. OBVIOUSLY. I’ll be the one in the corner furiously attempting to clear my schedule, book a room, and order my friends around via text. Yeah, THAT guy.

As if a book signing and an opportunity to turn my penchant for mocking myself into a group activity were not enough, ALL Proceeds from the sale of the book are going toward the Provincetown Art Association and Museum.  SO COME. AND BUY A BOOK. Or, actually, BUY SIX and tell them I PAID FOR FIVE.

* The title of this post has been lovingly pilfered from the poetry of my lord and savior Adrienne Rich.

As yet another school year comes to a close, the School of Museum of Fine Arts is hosting its fourth annual Senior Thesis Show, featuring the works of 46 artists, at 230 Fenway, Boston, MA 02115. The exhibition is open to the public for viewing from now until May 31, 2011, Mon-Sat 12-7pm.  For more information, visit http://www.smfa.edu, or call 617-267-6100.

I must admit: while Boston may be known for its superlative and reigning academic culture, it is not what I generally consider an ‘artsy’ city.  But the ever-growing population of talented, young artists, working in a unique range of media, is challenging me to reconsider that position…

THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY ONLY!

Meet David Chum, the designer behind Selahdor, and be among the first to shop this Boston-based label’s latest collection. The designer himself is on hand for personal fittings, and if you’ve seen him on either our recently-aired segment on the launch of Emerging Designer Fund or his feature a few months back, you know he’s one charming fellow. He’ll be preselling the A|W 2011 collection, and selling a selection of samples from previous seasons.

The trunk show is part of LOUIS‘ Exposure Series. Designed to be like an open-air market at the store, the series also features, each weekend, a dynamic mix of designers/artists/artisans.

Selahdor is the Emerging Designer Fund’s 2011 Award Recipient, and is sponsored by The Liberty.

[Daphne Guinness getting ready for the Gala in a Barney's window... Why not?!?]

It was McQueen Mania at the Met last night, as the Costume Institute celebrated the designer and his body of work in their annual fundraising fête.

But the mania was well deserved, if regrettably posthumous. Few designers accomplished what McQueen accomplished with his work: an artistry that transcended his medium and lived purely in the world of fantasy, but that embodied so thoroughly what the rest of the world of designers and luxury giants are perpetually blathering on about: clothes that are, at their core, aspirational.

Master Milliner Philip Treacy said of the maelstrom at the Met:  ”[McQueen] wouldn’t have come…”

My personal favorites, after the jump. [Clearly, Guinness is a goddess in McQueen, and as per usual completely overshadowed the myriad others who could only pay their lesser homage to Lee...]

Spring is here…finally. And we are actually starting to feel that tinge of…well…happiness is it? The sun is shining (who knew it still existed?) and I, for one, am ready for the concomitant Spring mix of color. Coral dress? Check. Electric blue pumps? Check. Now I just need a bit of sparkle, which brings me to…

The Anzie Trunk Show at Saks Fifth Avenue: May 5th-7th.

It’s the perfect chance to shop some Spring jewels. Anzie’s collection of colored gems serves as a build-able jewelery wardrobe that’s perfect for the casual, jeans-and-a-t-shirt every day, but can easily do double duty for eveningwear.

A few of my favorites, after the jump.

To give you an idea of how amazing Nerdnite is, I’ve got five words for you; sold out on a Monday.  Yeah, you read that right, this monthly celebration of learning, nerdiness, and socializing is so much fun that it can pack a venue even on a Monday night.  What exactly is Nerdnite?  Think of something you might already be familiar with doing; hanging out at a great bar with a few of your friends drinking and socializing.  Now, imagine adding some interesting talks by local experts/enthusiasts on anything, from things you never knew about cheese, to how your music files become compressed, and what’s lost in the process.  If you’ve ever been out to a bar and felt underwhelmed by the caliber of conversation, Nerdnite is for you.  All the normal fun and great music you’d expect from Middlesex Lounge, plus you’ll learn something cool, and maybe you’ll finally meet someone who’s as smart as they are cute.

When I attended the last Nerdnite on March 29th, the talks were titled “The Sexy Social Science of NBA Basketball: Insights into Economics, Sociology, and Psychology from Professional Hoops” by Adam Waytz (of Free Darko fame) and “Break it Down: Prototyping Dance Central” by Matt Boch.  Already a fan of Dance Central I knew I’d find the second talk interesting, but not being much of a fan of any sports, least of all basketball, I was a little worried about the first talk.  Now, this is where Nerdnite really shines, the speakers often have a way of presenting things you never thought could pique your interest in the most compelling and exciting ways, their enthusiasm for their topics is incredibly contagious.  And that’s what you’re always guaranteed at Nerdnite, new knowledge, some surprises, and a uniquely good time.  Tonight’s Nerdnite is a special trivia edition co-sponsored by Young Professionals in Energy.  Come out and test your nerd skills, or, if you need to brush up on a few topics first, check out the next Nerdnite Friday, May 6th at the MIT museum, a special night being held as part of the Cambridge Science Festival.  See you there!

Boston University’s School of Visual Arts invited South Africa’s Caversham Press for an exhibition, highlighting works from the press’ numerous local and international artists, artists-in-training, writers and educators.  The show is on display until March 27 at the 808 Gallery (808 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston), and is free and open to the public.

The work, both sorrowful and spellbinding, is a testament to the multifaceted history of the apartheid regime, and a collective response to the indiscriminate HIV/AIDs epidemic, observed through the talent and the voices of these individual artists, young and old, established and up-and-coming. For exhibition details, click HERE.

My take on the exhibition, after the jump.
