RUE LA LA STEAL: 94 MASS AVE

I’ve been snagging fashion deals on Rue La La for quite some time now, but it’s a more recent development that I’ve taken advantage of the Rue Local Picks. As a relative newbie in Boston, Rue provides both guidance….and an incredible deal.

94 Mass Ave opened early this year where Match Burgers and Martinis used to be. The menu of small plates is synced with the vibe of the restaurant: intimate gourmet fare, in a relaxed scene. The Rue deal: late-night tasting dinner for two, featuring 6 small plates and a bottle of wine… for astonishingly-low $45.

Anything that includes an entire bottle of wine for that price is a deal. So upon my trip, I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting much from the food. But I was pleasantly, pleasantly surprised: the menu at 94 Mass Ave is made up entirely of small plates. Each is reasonably priced, delicious, and, actually, hardly small.

Highlights: the oysters, mini kobe beef burgers, lobster grilled cheese with tomato soup, and chocolate peanut butter molten cake (dessert was actually a seventh plate).

Another highlight? The fact that we just walked in, handed over our Rue certificate, and didn’t have to think for the rest of the night.  And then, come the end of the meal, I heard my favorite words: “you’re all taken care of.” No check in sight.
