SELAHDOR COMES TO LOUIS

Meet David Chum, the designer behind Selahdor, and be among the first to shop this Boston-based label’s latest collection. The designer himself is on hand for a limited number of appointments for personal fittings, and if you’ve seen him on either our recently-aired segment on the launch of Emerging Designer Fund or his feature a few months back, you know he’s one charming fellow. He’ll be preselling the A|W 2011 collection, and selling a selection of samples from previous seasons.

MASSART’S 2011 SENIOR FASHION SHOW ‘VOLTAGE’

[PHOTO CREDIT: Jay Calderin] I had the exciting opportunity recently to get a sneak peek at the Massachusetts College of Art ‘Voltage’ Senior Fashion Show (while filming a feature for the show…).  It was certainly a daunting task to select whom to highlight, what with all the endless trains of chiffon, tulle, peacock feathers and …

COSTUME INSTITUTE GALA: MCQUEEN MANIA

[Daphne Guinness getting ready for the Gala in a Barney’s window… Why not?!?] It was McQueen Mania at the Met last night, as the Costume Institute celebrated the designer and his body of work in their annual fundraising fête. MARKET REVIEW | AUDI S5 COUPE

For the sake of sparing you my long-winded drooling, I’ll say only this: so fresh, so clean.   And while I have generally been restricted in my life to sedans or SUVs, dictated simply by the myriad necessities of my day-to-day duties (Hi, can you imagine twenty garment bags stuffed into a backseat?), I’m inclined to …

DVF ANNOUNCES THE CFDA AWARDS NOMINEES

Diane von Furstenberg, the president of the CFDA,  announced the CFDA Awards nominees tonight in NYC. Alexander Wang made a strong showing (the veritable Meryl Streep of the Fashion world…), but I have to admit I’m gunning for a Proenza win for Womenswear Designer of the Year. As for the Gaga nomination, I have little to …

THE WUNDERKIND WHO WILL / A LOUIS LOVE LETTER

Pedro Lourenço is Fashion’s newest prodigy. He is twenty years old. Yes, the Brazilian designer was born into a fashion dynasty; yes, his parents own the factory in which his predominantly-leather, razor-sharp take on contemporary tailoring is produced; yes, he is all of those things that a new designer, who, incidentally, shows in Paris, ought to be. Namely: …
